Uncrowd

Uncrowd Logo

Currently I'm working with Uncrowd to build a data modelling engine for retailers in order to be able to predict where customers will choose to shop.

Powered by Richard Hammond's book 'Friction Vs Reward', we take a huge amount of data from emotional need states, purchasing power, and more to create a standalone comparable metric to work out where your business lies in the market.

This requires highly complex data modelling to create a brand new analytics dashboard inside of a custom PHP framework maintained by the company.

Uncrowd won Microsoft for Startups "UK Startup of the Year" award in 2020 for our outstanding work in analytics for the retail industry.

Gay Star News

The Gay Star News Logo

As the Head of Technology and Development for Gay Star News, I led on all of our technical strategy and digital implimentations. Day to day I was their sole full stack wordpress developer, network architect, and the general overseer of all things 'IT' at the business.

Whilst at the business, I implemented a fully fledged dynamic advertising system with a 3rd party to increase business revenue.

I also implemented a vast number of optimisations to the main website such as advanced image compression, version control of the codebase and 3rd party plugins, automated deployments, and code minification.

These technical adjustments led to the page load speed of the website reducing from an excess of 20 seconds (or failure) to an average of under 2 seconds.

Validation Station

Validation Station Screenshot

This project was a big technical challenge as I was in charge of the entire back-end featureset from databases to frameworks.

I built an automated signup system, a system to automatically send out daily text messages to hundreds of users, and a webhook that deals with incoming text messages.

Integrated at points with both Vonage's and Twilio's APIs, the Validation Station sent over 250,000 text messages to over 10,500 people during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Proghurst

The ProgHurst Logo

Sometimes I write reviews for my own personal music reviews website Proghurst.

Mostly themed around prog-rock and other genres in the progressive music scene, the audience for this site is niche but dedicated.

I've had the oppurtunity to interview a number of artists through this website, and it brings me much joy to continue to do so.

Progstats

As part of the /r/progmetal and /r/progrockmusic community serving over 120,000 subscribers, the Images & Words discord server wanted it's own Last.FM stats aggregation system.

Last.FM is a tool that tracks what music you listen to, and allows you to share that back with your friends.

I created a platform that uses Last.FM's API to create an OLAP cube of the listening habbits of the discord server members.

This then automatically generates into a 'Top 40' style album and artist list for members of the community to see which artists have been popular in any given week.

Said platform also comes with a user management system with a administrative dashboard behind a login wall for the community admins.

Audioboom PLC

At Audioboom as their Technical Operations Engineer, I developed the Audioboom PLC website. This website was built to comply with the rules and regulations of the London Stock Exchange.

The website was built using a Wordpress stack so that after I left the company, members of staff could use the CMS to continuously update the website, as is required by the London Stock Exchange.

CD Collection

For years I've wanted to have a link I can send to share my entire CD collection with friends and family. Or just access it on the fly. So, I put my coding fingers together and came up with this.

This is a one page application built in PHP. Everything on the page updates dynamically using SQL queries each time I add a new CD to the MySQL database.

I've also implemented Chart.js to display a number of charts tracking various pieces of data around the collection including cumulative year on year growth, and albums by decade of release.

Tech Taste

The Tech Taste Logo

Tech Taste was a technology news website that I founded when I was 13. It later merged into Geekily UK, and then back into Tech Taste.

While it has gone through many stages of operation and branding, it is now an inactive and archived project.
